Job summary

The Monitor Technician monitors, recognizes, and interprets cardiac rhythms, identifies deviations, and responds to emergencies such as arrhythmias or cardiac arrest, under RN supervision. Responsibilities include recording and updating patient cardiac data, performing continuous ECG monitoring, and ensuring patient safety through prompt intervention.

Responsibilities

The Monitor Technician is responsible for continuous surveillance and interpretation of cardiac rhythms to identify patient deterioration or lethal arrhythmias. They must document findings accurately and initiate emergency response protocols when necessary to ensure patient safety.

Qualifications

Anatomy and Physiology of the Heart Arrhythmia Detection Cardiac Rhythm Monitoring Communication Skills Critical Thinking ECG/EKG interpretation Emergency Response Activation Patient Monitoring Patient Safety Telemetry Systems Operation

Candidates must possess a vocational technical certification in Electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG) and current BLS certification. A minimum of six months of relevant experience is required, or successful completion of the Monitor Technician Extern program.
