Lightning AI, developers of PyTorch Lightning, seeks a Senior Backend Engineer to build control planes, backend services, and automation for managing Kubernetes and Slurm clusters in a large-scale GPU infrastructure environment. The role involves designing distributed systems for infrastructure provisioning, cluster management, workload scheduling, and ensuring platform security, scalability, observability, and resilience.

Responsibilities

Design and operate backend services and control planes to provision and scale Kubernetes and Slurm clusters across a large GPU fleet. Automate cluster lifecycle management and improve platform reliability, security, and observability.

Qualifications

Cloud-native architectures Distributed systems Go Infrastructure management Kubernetes Networking Observability, CI/CD, testing Python Slurm Storage and cloud infrastructure

Requires significant professional experience with Go or Python and deep hands-on expertise operating large-scale Kubernetes or Slurm environments. Candidates must have a strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and production infrastructure.
