Job summary

Waymo is seeking an experienced senior technical lead to oversee large-scale machine learning model development and deployment, optimize model efficiency across platforms, lead cross-team initiatives, and mentor engineering staff, with a focus on state-of-the-art AI infrastructure and autonomous driving technology.

Responsibilities

This role involves leading the development and enabling efficient deployment for large-scale machine learning models using advanced AI infrastructure, focusing on improving model efficiency across different platforms and driving model system codesign practices. Key duties include technical leadership in studying SOTA optimizations, performance analysis using dev tooling innovation, and strong execution in developing high-performance optimizations for various models and training setups.

Qualifications

distributed training/inference hardware optimization leadership machine learning infrastructure mentorship ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX) model optimization performance analysis performance profiling tools system design

Candidates must have 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 5 years in machine learning infrastructure focused on large-scale systems development, training, deployment, and optimization. A Master’s or PhD in Computer Science or a related field is preferred, alongside deep expertise in ML accelerator profiling tools and modern ML frameworks.
