Job summary

Waymo is seeking a Staff ML Engineer specialized in generative model performance & efficiency to analyze, optimize, and benchmark deep learning architectures—particularly Transformers, Diffusion Models, and MoEs. The candidate will develop techniques like quantization, pruning, and distillation, optimize model code for hardware accelerators, and build tools for profiling and debugging to enhance the scalability and latency of generative ML models in autonomous vehicle simulations.

Responsibilities

Analyze and optimize generative model architectures to identify bottlenecks in training and inference performance. Design high-throughput serving solutions and implement model compression techniques to improve scalability and efficiency.

Qualifications

Deep Learning Architectures Diffusion Models Hardware Acceleration (TPUs, GPUs) Knowledge Distillation Model Optimization Model Performance Profiling Pruning Python Programming Quantization Transformers

Requires an MS or PhD in Computer Science or a related field with over 5 years of experience in deep learning architectures. Proficiency in JAX, Flax, and performance profiling tools is essential.
